Question from: County Councillor Iain McIntosh Grantiau nawr ar gael ar gyfer paneli solar mewn ysgolion / Grants now available for solar panels in schools
Question: Powys County Council will have been made aware that, working in conjunction with Solar for Schools, National Grid Electricity Distribution is investing £540,000 annually until 2028 (with grants of up to £25,000 per school) to help schools in areas of high economic deprivation reach their net zero goals and reduce energy bills by installing solar panels. The first two schools to benefit have together saved £3,500 a month in energy bills, with a forecasted saving of £1.2million over the lifetime of the solar panels. They are also predicted to save more than 1,100 tonnes of CO2 over the same time period.
Part of a five year programme, the grants are available to schools in the National Grid Electricity Distribution operational areas in England and Wales.
Applications are now open and interested schools can find out more at and register their interest at: https://funnel.solarforschools.co.uk/NationalGrid.
Can Cabinet members confirm they have been made aware if this, and also confirm that all schools eligible for this support in Powys will be advised to apply for this valuable grant aid?
