Question from: County Councillor James Gibson-Watt Subject: Railings on Hay Bridge
Question:
The railings on Hay Bridge (the main road bridge over the River Wye on the B4351) have been in a rotten state for many years and are now having to be supplemented by extra safety railings to enable pedestrians to cross the bridge safely. Highways officers stated many months ago that the railings will be replaced but as yet this has not happened.
Hay Bridge is a prominent structure on the gateway to Hay-on-Wye and the Brecon Beacons National Park as well as being a vital transport link. Its current state and the very poor condition of the railings are not only a potential risk to public safety but are a very poor advertisement for Hay-on-Wye, the Brecon Beacons National Park and Powys.
Can the Portfolio Holder provide assurance that the railings will be replaced in this financial year and, if not, explain why not?
Minutes: Councillor James Gibson-Watt advised on the 21 January 2022 that “he had been informed the work will start on Monday morning next week.” The Portfolio Holder noted this also.
