Question from: County Councillor James Gibson-Watt Subject: City of Culture 2025
Please provide details of the costs of preparing Powys’s UK City of Culture 2025 bid, from where in the council’s 2021/22 Budget the money was vired and an estimate of the financial return the council was anticipating from the bid, had it been successful.
Response by the Portfolio Holder:
There was no budget allocated to preparing the Powys UK City of Culture 2025 expression of interest. The bid was supported by the Leader, Portfolio Holders, council officers and Powys cultural associates. Officers from a number of services (mainly Culture, Regeneration, Digital and Communications) undertook work on the application and there were no additional staffing costs. The only expenditure was £147 to purchase website domain names, which was met within existing budgets. The council did not anticipate a financial return from a successful bid, benefits were anticipated for the Powys economy, local businesses, residents and visitors to the county.
