Question from: County Councillor Gareth Ratcliffe Subject: Air B&B properties

Question From:

County Councillor Gareth Ratcliffe

Subject:

Air B&B properties

Question To:

County Councillor Iain McIntosh

Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Planning & Housing

Question:

Following a search on Air B&B website it shows Hay has 32 properties in Hay that are operating Air B&Bs

21 are full accommodation

8 are rooms

3 are apartments.

Considering following my previous question on second homes resulting in Hay having 5% second homes and empty properties this means Hay has around 9% vacancy from full time occupancy if you include Air B&Bs. This does not include properties that are not on the system or have another form of letting and could result in a much higher number

Can the portfolio holder please confirm what PCC are doing to support communities when it comes to ensuring there is a fair balance between business and opportunities for residents so young people will be able to get on the property ladder.

Response by the Portfolio Holder:

The proliferation of Airbnb properties is a matter outside our control as a local housing authority and is something that may possibly be addressed by the appropriate planning authority.  Accordingly, the question would be better addressed by the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority.
