The Council has two empty houses on the Penlan site in Brecon.  Over a number of years, local Councillors have asked for them to made available for Council housing.

Will the Cabinet Member explain why these houses have been left empty for so long and also explore the possibility of bringing them back into use to help provide much needed social housing?

Response by the Portfolio Holder:

I can confirm that the Education Department still own the properties on the Penlan site as they were originally used as caretaker/school staff houses.  Both houses were included as part of the demolition order that received planning consent to coincide with the demolition of the former high school.

The main reason being, that they were no longer fit for purpose and would have needed a large amount of money spending on them that made them unviable and they also contain asbestos.  A member of the Education Property Maintenance Team has confirmed that the demolition is due to take place early in the new year.
