Question from: County Councillor Gareth Ratcliffe Subject: Local lockdown
Question:
As you are aware Covid19 is on the increase across UK and Wales and we are seeing counties going into local lockdown to protect residents. Caerphilly is the first in Wales and Merthyr is rumoured to be on high alert as the next authority to go into those measures. We have also seen an increase in Powys and this is concerning.
In light of this what measures are PCC putting in place due to its high area and low population demographic? Are the local authority looking at a whole county action or splitting it into areas within the county? Also, what communications and guidance will be given to Members to support any lockdown if we sadly need to go into one?
Minutes: Response by the Portfolio Holder:
As I am sure you will appreciate this in evolving situation and additional powers are being given to local government to combat the spread of the virus.
We will continue to do everything in our power to manage the impact of the virus and avoid its spread. This may include the imposition of local, county wide or national measures as appropriate.
A briefing has been provided at our Budget Seminar on the 14th of September.
Clearly communication with local members will be integral to any actions taken.
