Question From: County Councillor Elwyn Vaughan Subject: Financial help for those reliant on heating oil
Question:
I noticed an advert going around which seems to claim that Powys "have stepped up and made open financial assistance to those reliant on heating oil in Powys." and that "Powys Council introduces financial help for those reliant on heating oil."
Saying "stepping up" and "introduces" implies that this is an initiative started by Powys Council and hence funded by this authority.
However, my understanding is that this is funded by Welsh Government as part of a central strategy. Can you please confirm that please, so that we as Councillors can be clear as to who is funding this initiative and to ensure clarity and openness to our ratepayers.
Minutes: Response by Head of Service:
The council is offering support to around 1000 residents in Powys who are on low-income benefits with an additional £150 towards any off grid main heating source.
This is one of the elements that forms part of the Discretionary Cost of Living Support Scheme agreed by Cabinet earlier in the year, the funding is provided by Welsh Government. The council were able to design the scheme as they wished (within the general Terms & Conditions).
The discretionary scheme was approved by Cabinet on the 5 July if you want to review the report. |
