Question from: County Councillor Elwyn Vaughan Subject: Adfer Ynni Pyrolysis / Pyrolysis energy recovery
Question:
I note that Shropshire Council want to establish a pyrolysis plant and according to the County Times article it will be built in Powys as part of cross border initiative.
It states that 50% will be owned by Shropshire and 50% by a private firm and "the joint venture will be in Powys in the Marches Forward Partnership area."
Is this part of the Marches Partnership? Was Powys council aware if the proposal? Have local Cllrs and communities been consulted on this development?
Minutes: Response by the Cabinet Member:
Whilst we were not sighted on the joint venture between Shropshire Council and a private firm in Powys for a Pyrolysis plant the ambition of the Marches partnership is looking at energy production as a key focus which this project is looking to investigate. That being said we are still at the early stages of that partnership which was informed further by partner and member input at our meeting on 23rd April.
As we were not sighted on the project I am unable to comment on public or local member consultation but this will be required as part of the statutory process that would be required for planning consent if the project progresses to this stage.
Please be assured that the people of Powys remain our key focus whilst delivering our ambition of green energy under out Stronger, Fairer and Greener vision.
