Question from: County Councillor Gareth E Jones Subject: Follow up question re Catchment area for new Brecon English Medium School
Question:
Thank you for your response to the question I asked on the 18th November, but unfortunately your response did not provide any response to the specific question I asked in relation to the unique factors that you have taken in to account in respect to deciding that Children from the current Cradoc CP Catchment area will be provided free Home to School transport to the new school site, once constructed, on the Brecon High School Site.
Can I now please ask you to answer the question I originally asked, which I have detailed below.
In the response provided by Cllr Charlton to my question in respect to the geographical areas from which children and their parents have the choice of transport to a school which is not their closest school, Cllr Charlton confirmed that “Only in very unique situations are geographical and cultural factors considered” and children are subsequently transported to a school which is not the closest school to their home address.
In the County Council meeting in which a discussion in respect to the future of Cradoc C P was undertaken you stated that transport for children living in the current Cradoc CP school catchment area would be provided to the new English medium School that is proposed to be built on the Brecon High School Site in around 4 years’ time.
As this will not be the closest school to the children’s homes living in Cradoc, Lower and Upper Chapel, Pontfaen, Battle and the other communities in the current Cradoc CP catchment area, what are the Very Unique factors that you have taken into consideration when deciding that they will qualify for free Home to School transport to the new school site?
Minutes: Response by the Cabinet Member:
As stated previously, the catchment maps for the new Brecon primary school will not be drawn until a site has been finalised. At this point the catchment will be drawn based on a learners nearest school and then consideration given to potential minor adjustments to reflect local geographical and topographical factors.
Transport arrangements for current pupils attending the three campuses of Cradoc, Mount Street Infants and Juniors will be honoured.
