Question from: County Councillor Elwyn Vaughan Subject: Traffic lights
Question:
Is it correct that a company from Essex today [24/10/22] arrived at Newtown to sort traffic lights for Powys highways in order to put electric cables for car points in the car park? Yet nobody from highways have shown up and the company will return to Essex within the hour. Why use a company from Essex when there’s one based at Llanidloes? So much for promoting the local economy and being ‘green’.
Minutes: Response by the Cabinet Member:
The works in Newtown are not works promoted or funded by Powys County Council. The works were for a private contractor to provide a connection to the SWARCO chargers that have been installed as part of a Transport for Wales programme of introducing a rapid charging network across Wales. Aside from licencing SWARCO to use the car park, the Council have no direct involvement in this. Further information can be seen at TfW appoints SWARCO UK Ltd to deliver 21 electric vehicle rapid charge points . I can advise that Powys County Council were not required or requested to be on site the day in question and that all the necessary streetworks approvals were in place. The issue you have raised are solely down to SWARCO and their contractor who employed the services of the Essex based traffic management company.
