Question from: County Councillor Little Brighouse Subject: Support for residents of Mobile Park Homes - cost-of-living crisis
Question:
I would like to ask what support, if any, Powys County Council has made available specifically to residents of Mobile Park Homes across the County, to help them through the impacts of the cost-of-living crisis.
Minutes: The cost of living crisis is affecting every household in Powys including those in mobile park homes. While urgent action is needed at a UK level, the County Council is working to mitigate the impacts of the crisis on residents in our communities.
The Fuel Support Scheme, which the County Council administers on behalf of the Welsh Government, is established to assist households on low incomes. Within this scheme, it does not matter how residents pay for fuel and it does not matter if it is on grid or off grid. This may be of particular interest to those in mobile park homes and those who use fuels like LPG. (More information about the scheme can be found here: https://en.powys.gov.uk/article/11971/Fuel-Support-Scheme-202223)
The County Council has established its Discretionary Cost of Living Support Scheme using Welsh Government funding. The scheme will provide support to residents and key partners to help with the impacts of the cost of living crisis. (More information can be found here: https://en.powys.gov.uk/article/12397/Cost-of-Living-Support-Scheme)
The Council is working to establish a network of warm spaces to support anyone struggling with the cost of living this winter. We are keen to work with any community group or organisation that would be able to provide warm spaces within their community. (More information about our ambition is here: https://en.powys.gov.uk/article/13227/Creating-Warm-Spaces-for-Powys#:~:text=The%20council%20is%20looking%20to,warm%20spaces%20within%20their%20community.)
A Welsh Government directory to help residents get help with the cost of living has been established. The directory provides information and advice to residents in a number of areas including housing, financial assistance, social security, schools and childcare costs and health and wellbeing. The directory is a useful tool for residents, communities and councillors which links residents to Powys County Council where we administer a specific scheme locally. (The directory can be found here: https://gov.wales/get-help-cost-living)
The County Council delivers a free and confidential money advice service for residents. Where residents need help with benefits, budgeting, debt or fuel costs our in house service is available to provide help and support. (More information can be found here: https://en.powys.gov.uk/article/3271/Need-help-with-Benefits-Budgeting-Debt-or-Fuel-Costs)
The County Council will closely monitor the impacts to the cost of living crisis on residents and our communities. We will continue to work with partners and Councillors to mitigate its impacts and we will continue to seek financial support and assistance on behalf of people in Powys.
