Question from: County Councillor Aled Davies Subject: Highways Capital programme 2022/23
Question:
During the last council, regular local depot meetings were held to keep Members up to date with HTR issues in their local area. At the June meeting the Capital programme for our roads is usually shared. We are now almost halfway through the financial year and members have still not seen the Capital Programme, why is the Portfolio Holder intent on keeping local members in the dark?
Could the Portfolio holder for Highways Transport and Recycling please reinstate the regular Highway Depot Meetings and immediately publish the Capital Programme?
Minutes: Response by the Cabinet Member:
Firstly, can I apologise for the delay in responding. It is not our intention to delay responses. As you are aware we have focused on the Corporate Plan in the first instance and hopefully you have felt fully engaged in that process.
There are no intentions to keep any members in the dark around the capital programme, and whilst these meetings are important, I would encourage all members to liaise with the highways managers to discuss the capital programme in their wards. You will also have had the opportunity as Leader of your group to engage through the Financial Planning update in the process of managing the economic context we now find ourselves in as an authority.
I totally agree the highway depot meetings need to be reinstated and have asked for the Head of Service to commence these from the beginning of November 2022. We wanted to focus on Waste & Recycling in the first instance and were very aware that many new councillors were attending induction meetings and finding their feet after the election.
In the meantime if you do have any specific queries I would encourage you to liaise with Clive Jones who can run through the Capital programme for your ward.
Kind regards
Cllr Jackie Charlton
