Question from: County Councillor Elwyn Vaughan Subject: Openness and transparency
Question:
What is the definition of openness and transparency? Minutes: Response by the Cabinet Member:
Thank you for the question.
Openness and transparency have different meanings, so I will answer them separately.
Openness in the context of local government is in my view about being clear and honest about the decisions we make and in communication with council members, council officers and the public we serve; and also about being open to working with all members from across the council and other organisations to improve and deliver services to the highest possible standards.
Transparency is about ensuring that as much of the information that influences and helps form the decisions council members make is readily available to the public and all councillors; and that the forums in which those decisions are made (Cabinet, Committees, etc) are as accessible to the public as possible.
It is a clear aim of the Council administration I lead to move the way the council works to become more open, transparent and collaborative than it has been in the past.
