Question from: County Councillor Beverley Baynham Subject: Emptying of street bins
Question:
In my community of Presteigne we are experiencing issues with street bins not being emptied and the rubbish is literally overspilling onto the pavements. This is not only extremely unpleasant for residents and visitors alike it is also an environmental health risk. I understand other communities are also suffering similar issues.
Could the Portfolio Holder please clarify why the street bins are not being emptied regularly and what steps they are taking to address these problems?
Minutes: Response by the Cabinet Member:
Thank you for your question regarding the emptying of street bins in Presteigne.
Like many local authorities, we have been suffering from staff shortages in the Waste and Recycling Team which became particularly acute a couple of weeks ago. As a result we did have to prioritise staff onto collection rounds in some areas. I am informed that we have now caught up but please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused.
We are currently undertaking a recruitment drive both through our social media channels and also with posters advertising vacancies. If Members are able to assist in any way with this through their own channels it would be very much appreciated. In the meantime if there are any problems with missed collections these can be reported on our website where they will be actioned as quickly as possible.
