Question from: County Councillor Gareth Ratcliffe Subject: Hay live stock market
Question:
For some time now, PCC has been discussing with its tenant about terminating their lease at the cattle market in Hay and the site coming back to Powys County Council to operate.
The site has a large amount of community interest, and any future changes will considerably impact the community and the neighbours adjoining.
In light of this, will the council commit to opening early dialogue on the site's future to ensure that it positively impacts the community and not something seen as Powys to be cashing in and the community having no say on the site?
The community has worked hard on a community plan and will be looking to renew this soon, so it will be vital to understand the impact of PCC’s decisions.
Would the portfolio holder please meet with me as a local member and Hay Town Council to discuss the site and its future to ensure the community of Hay has its voice heard?
Minutes: Response by the Cabinet Member:
Thank you for your question regarding Hay livestock market.
I agree that securing community input is vital for this site. I have asked the Professional Lead for Strategic Property to arrange a meeting with you and the Town Council as soon as reasonably practicable. In the meantime, Strategic Property will keep you informed of any activity that needs to take place to appropriately secure the site.
