Question from: County Councillor Pete Roberts Subject: Cost to Council of Fly tipping
Question:
Would the Portfolio Holder list both the cost to the council of dealing with flytipping within Powys over each of the last five years and the numbers of successful prosecutions in the same period.
Minutes: Response by the Portfolio Holder:
The table below shows the costs and figures as reported by Stats Wales, which are published annually and are publicly available at Clearance costs of fly-tipping by local authority (gov.wales)
The costs are estimates, based on national average costs, which are broken down by the recorded size bracket of each fly-tipping incident. The reason for this is that clearance of fly-tips is conducted alongside other duties of street cleaning or other waste operatives, and so we can’t accurately separate the costs internally. All local authorities in Wales use the same cost estimates nationally to allow inter-authority comparison.
