Question from: County Councillor Mathew Dorrance Subject: Community defibrillators
Question:
Community defibrillators are lifesaving pieces of equipment and I am very pleased that Brecon Town Council has recently funded a community defibrillator scheme.
Will the County Council:
1. Work with community groups, town and community councils and residents to map the locations of defibrillators across the county, 2. Publish the map on its webpage and 3. Work with key partners and communities to help ensure there is a good county-wide coverage of provision?
Minutes: Response by the Portfolio Holder:
The Council is willing to work with communities in relation to the provision of public access defibrillators. It is however important that we do not duplicate or cloud the work of partner organisations. The Welsh Ambulance Services Trust (WAST) work in partnership with organisations including the Welsh Government, other emergency services and charitable organisations, to support cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training and public access defibrillation across Wales. The Welsh Ambulance Service have over 4100 Automated External Defibrillators registered on their control systems and their staff can direct members of the public to the nearest location in the event of an emergency. I therefore recommend that defibrillators are registered with the Welsh Ambulance Services Trust for public use so that they can be easily located when needed. The locations of defibrillators registered with WAST can be found on the publicly accessible WAST website. In light of your request, I have asked that consideration is given to the Council’s website signposting people to relevant sections of the WAST website.
