Question from: County Councillor Liz Rijnenberg Subject: Brecon Schools Transformation: public influence and engagement.
Question:
Can you confirm when the public consultation on Mount Street Infants, Mount Street Juniors and Cradoc Schools will be announced? How will people know about it?
A consultation during lockdown could limit the ability of the public to engage and influence the process. What is being done to address this?
How and when will objections and alternative proposals be meaningfully considered?
Can you confirm what the arrangements are for decisions based on consultation feedback to be formally scrutinised?
Minutes: Response by the Portfolio Holder:
Thank you for your question. The consultation process for the Mount Street Infants, Mount Street Juniors and Cradoc CP School will start after the half term holiday – the exact date will be confirmed next week. We will be following the Welsh Government’s School Organisation Code which sets out clearly the requirements for formal consultation and we will ensure that this is publicised widely in the media and on social media so that the widest possible engagement can take place.
Once the consultation period is completed, officers will analyse all responses received including alternative options. These will be presented to Cabinet in a Consultation Report in accordance with the requirements of the Code. The Learning and Skills Scrutiny committee will also have an opportunity to scrutinise the Consultation Report and present their findings to Cabinet, prior to any further decisions being made.
