Question from: County Councillor Matthew Dorrance Subject: Poultry Units
Question: Today (30/1/21) the Guardian featured an article which said Powys County Council “admitted it should not have granted planning permission for a vast broiler unit in the “poultry capital of Wales” after campaigners crowdfunded a judicial review.”
Will the Cabinet Member provide a written statement to update Council?
Minutes: Response by the Portfolio Holder:
I confirm that the Council has received a judicial review challenge in relation to a decision to grant planning permission for two poultry buildings near Knighton. Independent legal advice has been taken and Counsel has advised the Council that one of the grounds of challenge has merit and if the matter went to trial Powys County Council would be unlikely to succeed. Court proceedings are on-going and it would be inappropriate to provide further comment at this stage.
