Question From:

County Councillor Matthew Dorrance

Subject:

Covid-19 vaccine

Question To:

County Councillor Rosemarie Harris

Leader and Dr Caroline Turner, Chief Executive

Question:

The Coronavirus pandemic has put our public services and our public sector workers under immense and unprecedented pressure.

Thanks to the sacrifice and commitment of our staff the Council has continued to deliver services in our communities.

The roll out of the vaccine offers hope and the opportunity to start our recovery.

Therefore,

  1. Will the Council provide all of our staff with paid time off to get vaccinated, and
  2. Will the Council commit to being a champion for the vaccine in our communities?

Minutes:

Response by the Portfolio Holder:

Will the Council provide all of our staff with paid time off to get vaccinated?

Response:  The Council is providing time off during the working day to all staff who receive a vaccination in relation to their job role and is reimbursing travel expenses.

All other staff will either need to arrange their appointment outside of their working hours, or where this is not possible they will need to follow the Council’s normal arrangements for medical appointments, i.e. to arrange their appointment at a time which is least disruptive to the delivery of Council’s services and to take; leave, TOIL, flexi, or work the time back later or take unpaid leave.

Will the Council commit to being a champion for the vaccine in our communities?

Response:  Absolutely, the Council is already acting as a champion for our communities, for instance the Leader with the Chair of Powys Teaching Health Board are sending a joint letter about vaccinations to every household during the early part of January and will be sharing key messages with the public via social media.
