Question from: County Councillor Matthew Dorrance Subject: Engagement with supermarkets regarding compliance with all appropriate COVID-19 regulations
Question:
Will the Cabinet Member provide an update on how the Council is engaging with supermarkets in Powys to ensure they comply with all appropriate COVID-19 regulations.
Minutes: Response by the Portfolio Holder:
A programme of visits have been conducted at premises where intelligence has been received alleging non-compliance with Covid-19 requirements and this includes supermarkets.
A number of supermarkets have received written warnings and one premise has received a Premises Improvement Notice.
Reactive visits have been carried out in specific areas where all open premises in the locale were visited by teams of officers again this included supermarkets.
Where intelligence is received initial advice has also been supplied both to individual premises and the sector as a whole. Nationally Trading Standards are working with the Supermarkets Group and the Supermarket Primary Authorities to ensure compliance with the requirements across national supermarket chains. Where issues have been identified at a local level which may have national implications this has been dealt with by this route.
We are acting on all intelligence received to ensure businesses are operating safely.
