Question from: County Councillor Amanda Jenner Subject: Powys Business Awards - New award for Community Responsibility

Question From:

County Councillor Amanda Jenner

Subject:

Powys Business Awards - New award for Community Responsibility

Question To:

County Councillor James Evans

Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Housing & Regulatory Services

Question:

Over the last few years, we have seen some incredible actions by local businesses who have done great things for their communities or taken considerable efforts to become more environmentally sustainable.  We have also seen businesses donate generously to help during the COVID-19 pandemic and we have seen businesses work with schools, e.g. taking pupils out onto site to show maths in practice in the work force.  As a sponsor to Powys’ Business Awards, will the Council work with the local Mid Wales Chamber, and encourage the introduction of a new award to recognise the efforts of businesses in this way.

Response by the Portfolio Holder:

The Powys Business Awards run by the Mid Wales Manufacturing Group are an important celebration and showcase for the high quality businesses we have in the county.  As you rightly point out, this year we have seen many businesses rise to the challenge and make a valuable contribution to the Covid response and provide support for communities.  I have raised the issue with Ceri Stephens at the Mid Wales Manufacturing Group and we have agreed to include a special recognition award in this year’s awards.  I have asked officers to work with Ceri to set the criteria for this.
