Question from: County Councillor Iain McIntosh Subject: On street parking and pavements
Question:
Can you confirm how long the Welsh Government have, through their directive, asked councils to leave traffic cones in on street parking spaces for and, if there are plans to leave traffic cones in position, with a view to widening pavements permanently in certain town centre locations within Powys? Minutes: Response by the Portfolio Holder:
Welsh Government have not set any timescale around the social distancing regulations, but as part of the legislation it is being reviewed regularly. The traffic cones you refer to, are seen as an initial temporary measure to facilitate social distancing in those parts of towns where it would otherwise be difficult. This is pertinent to shoppers but also businesses where outside queuing may be necessary.
Welsh Government are most keen that County Councils work with Town Councils, residents and businesses to take the change as an opportunity to look at more permanent benefits that will improve things in terms of the economy and active travel going forward. They are offering funding to support such initiatives, and we will be taking plans forward with those towns wishing to look forward.
