Question from: County Councillor Roger Williams Subject: Recycled Material
Has the market for recycled material enabled Powys County Council to sell the material in a timely manner?
Response by the Portfolio Holder:
Throughout the pandemic we have been able sell the recyclable material as usual. However, there has, and continues to be, a significant negative effect on prices received which will have an impact on our finances going forward. It has also had an impact on the quality that processors are willing to accept so it is even more important that we collect a clean uncontaminated product.
The material most affected has been textiles as the global market has been severely impacted by the pandemic. We are currently in discussions with our contractor on how best to proceed, but we may need to consider whether we can continue to provide the network of textile banks in the county in the short term.
