Question from: County Councillor Matthew Dorrance Subject: Impact of Covid 19 on historic market towns
Questions:
What assessment has the Council made of the impact of COVID-19 on historic market towns like Brecon?
Minutes: Response by the Portfolio Holder:
The impacts of the pandemic are still being realised and will only manifest over time. These will vary across different businesses, sectors of the economy and geographically. Understanding the impacts and support required by Powys businesses and towns like Brecon will be vital to developing and influencing local, regional and national actions to support economic recovery and to ‘build back better’.
The Council has completed a COVID19 Impact Assessment for Powys comparing both nationally and internationally where possible. The Impact Assessment will be made available publicly (once translated) within the forthcoming weeks. It has not been possible for all indicators to assess at a Middle/Lower Super Output Area so best available information has been used.
As you are aware, a Powys Covid-19 business survey is currently underway. This aims to provide a more in-depth picture and understanding of the key issues and challenges facing Powys businesses and the local economy. The feedback will form an important part of our ongoing discussions with Welsh Government, Business Wales and partner organisations as we work together to provide future support and plan for recovery.
