Question from: County Councillor Jackie Charlton Subject: PPE
Question: PPE We have had very good assurance today from you that PPE equipment is now being accessed by care and nursing homes across Powys with deliveries covering the critical period of the Easter break ensuring a full supply is readily available. In the news just today on BBC Wales it would seem a care home in Criccieth, Gwynedd has, in the last few days, been refused PPE from her supplier as equipment was being reserved for homes in England. Can you give reassurance that the Powys supplier will not do this. Welsh Government have confirmed contingency planning is in place but does not provide further information.
Minutes: Response by the Portfolio Holder:
Social Care Providers are expected to arrange their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as usual for normal circumstance. However, any PPE required by social care providers above and beyond the normal requirements due to the COVID-19 pandemic is provided by the Welsh Government and distributed by the Council's community equipment service. The Welsh Government will only be delivering stock to Welsh Authorities. The service in Powys provides a 24/7 response and provides PPE both proactively so that care organisastions have their own stock and that care staff can carry their own supply, but also on demand for urgent response. The Welsh Government have distributed sufficient stock for the Easter weekend and are advising the Council that they will, from here on in be delivering additional supplies twice a week. We are, therefore, assured that sufficient PPE will be available for social care purposes while the Welsh Government continue to provide.
Corporately there is work being undertaken to source additional PPE from other suppliers for situations where other service areas may need its use.
