Question from: County Councillor Matthew Dorrance Subject: Fuel Poverty Strategy PDF 744 KB
Question: What discussions is the Council having with Welsh Government about the future of the Fuel Poverty Strategy?
Minutes: Response by the Portfolio Holder:
The Council is current consulting on a new equality objective for the council - By 2024, we will improve opportunities and outcomes for children living in poverty. Associated activities have been aligned to this objective as well as Vision 2025. The consultation runs until 9th February and a series of face to face events are also planned for the next fortnight, targeting specific groups, https://haveyoursay.powys.gov.uk/corporate/equality-survey/
Furthermore, the Housing service have a strategy to address Thermal Comfort and Poverty which I attach.
The Housing Service continues to develop its approach to reducing fuel poverty for the one in ten people in Powys who rent their home from the Council. This includes working with the Welsh Government each year to set the Housing Revenue Account Business Plan, which sets out how the Council will fund investment in its homes each year. The HRA Business Plan will be updated by the end of March 2020 for the financial year 2020-2021 and will also set out broad proposals for investment over the next 29 years. Senior Managers from the service are members of the Welsh Government Welsh Housing Quality Standard Manager’s Forum which has already begun discussions on how to contribute to the declaration by the Welsh Government of a ‘Climate Emergency’. These discussions are centred around how the Council can make its homes more energy efficient, generate less waste and pollution and be provided in an environmentally sustainable way. Making those outcomes a reality, which will include forming agreements and partnerships with the Welsh Government and other agencies, will make a major contribution towards reducing fuel poverty. |
