Question from: County Councillor Kathryn Silk Subject: Use of lamp posts as electric charging points for electric vehicles

Question From:

County Councillor Kathryn Silk

Subject:

Use of lamp posts as electric charging points for electric vehicles

Question To:

County Councillor Heulwen Hulme

Portfolio Holder for Environment

Question:

What plans does the County Council have for developing a county-wide infrastructure to promote electric vehicles, and will the Cabinet Member consider the feasibility of using lampposts as charging points for electric vehicles in Powys, as is being done by the London Borough of Westminster?

Minutes:

Response by the Portfolio Holder:

I can advise that this Authority has been successful in obtaining a grant to install chargers in some of our off street car parks, more information can be seen at https://en.powys.gov.uk/article/7890/Electric-vehicle-charging-points-rev-up

We are also seeking further funding opportunities to enable more chargers to be installed at other locations across the county.

Unfortunately, it is not simple to install EV chargers within existing infrastructure such as lampposts since the cabling etc in place here is only sufficient to power the lamps on the columns.  It is therefore not currently feasible or safe to add charge points to the lamp posts.
