Cabinet received details of the consultation that had been carried out on the proposal to close Ladywell Green Infants School and Hafren C.P. Junior School and establish a new English-medium primary school for pupils aged 4-11 on the current sites. Cabinet also noted the comments made at the Council meeting on 20th December. The site had been raised as an issue and Cabinet noted that there was room on the site for both the new school and the North Powys Wellbeing Project campus and that it was not a question of either or. Taking into account the clear support for the proposal in the consultation it was

 

RESOLVED

Reason for Decision:

i)    To receive the Consultation Report and the views of Full Council in respect of establishing a new primary school in Newtown.

 

To understand the issues raised during the consultation period.

ii)   To approve the publication of a statutory notice to close both Ladywell Green Infants School and Hafren C.P. Junior School from the 31st August 2021, and open a new English-medium primary school for pupils aged 4-11 on the sites currently occupied by Ladywell Green Infants School and Hafren C.P. Junior School from the 1st September 2021.
