Ysgol Bro Cynllaith - Consultation Report Additional documents:
Minutes: The Chair explained that this was a reconvened meeting of the Cabinet meeting held on 18th February which had been adjourned when the translation system had failed during the debate on the Ysgol Bro Cynllaith consultation report. The Head of Legal and Monitoring Officer gave a summary of the discussion on the 18th February. The Chair of the Learning and Skills Scrutiny Committee corrected one point, noting that the Committee had made eight and not six recommendations over the course of two meetings.
There were no declarations of interest reported.
County Councillor Bryn Davies spoke as a member in a neighbouring ward where Ysgol Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant would be a receiving school. He argued that Ysgol Bro Cynllaith would be the ideal site for a Welsh medium school to serve the eastern part of the Tanat Valley. County Councillor Aled Davies agreed that the school should be retained so that Welsh language education could be developed in the area. The Head of Transforming Education advised that it was the council’s strategy to develop Welsh medium education for the area at Ysgol Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant. In response to questions about what would happen to the school building and site, the Head of Transforming Education said there would be discussions with the community over potential future uses. She also confirmed that there had been no response from Llanfyllin High School over a suggestion to develop a classroom in the countryside at Ysgol Bro Cynllaith.
Having considered the representations made and the recommendations in the report, Cabinet
RESOLVED
