Question from: County Councillor Gareth Ratcliffe Subject: Future development of Gwernyfed High School
Question:
Over the last couple of years there has been discussions around the development of Gwernyfed High School. This has allowed the school to focus on education and start planning for its future. Sadly, it is disappointing to see that there has been little or no movement that the public are aware of since this was promised in September 2016. The council have said they are working on the development and looking at new sites for a possible school in the area. The council is working hard its education programme across the county to ensure that we get the best for our learners. It is concerning though that yet again Gwernyfed High School seems to be forgotten part of the county. Can the portfolio holder please provide a public update for my community on the progress of the development of a new school/ redevelopment Gwernyfed High School and the community have been promised. For many years, the council has rolled over the budgets and has had reassurances but again we find ourselves in the position of uncertainty due to the lack of progress. Your help in this matter will reinsure the community, that Powys County Council is committed and serious about education in the local catchment.
